Williams Barn, Rusted Roof — Original Framed Textile Fiber Art Wall Hanging by Claudia Buchanan
80 Hours of Love, Stitching, and a California Barn Worth Remembering
Out on the flatlands near Williams, California, an old barn with a rusted metal roof has stood for generations beneath wide open skies. This one-of-a-kind original textile fiber art wall hanging by Claudia Buchanan brings that iconic scene to life in a medium as rich, layered, and textured as the barn itself.
The sky was hand painted by Claudia, then the composition was built up layer by layer using hand-dyed and commercial fabrics in raw edge appliqué — giving the piece its distinctive organic, painterly quality. Mixed media elements were woven throughout: inks, pastels, silk, and wool roving, all unified by heavy thread painting that adds movement, depth, and extraordinary detail to every inch of the 18” x 24” finished work.
Step close and the piece reveals itself fully — the texture of the rusted roof, the sweep of the painted sky, the intricate stitching that holds it all together. This is art that cannot be captured in a photograph. It must be experienced in person.
